Nutrition – 1877 Calories
Today was a very tough day. I forgot to bring my fruit from home so I had to borrow an apple from a co-worker to finish off my breakfast. Then I also ran out of power bars so I brought a snack pack size Graham Cracker bag for morning snack and ate that (120 calories) and a tablespoon of peanut butter (100 calories). It was close to the power bar in terms of calories and the macronutrients wre good enough for me with a bit high on the sugars.
And if all this wasn’t enough, at work we had a pot luck luncheon where everyone got to bring a dish and well all got to share. I opted not to participate and instead of going to the pot luck I was downstairs doing cardio on the elliptical machine. After I was done with my cardio and weight lifting I went to the break room to eat my turkey patty, rice and vegetables that I brought in from home. The place was still loaded with dishes and desserts with no end in sight. I had to be pretty strong to stay away from it all. The only thing I ate off of the Thanksgiving feast was 2oz of ham that a co-worker made. It blew my sodium for the day but I thought this is the least damage I can do and I satisfied my craving of digging into the dishes. What can I say? I’m weak. At least I didn’t go for the desserts.
I had nothing prepared for dinner and I didn’t really feel like thawing out the lean ground beef to make beef patties so I had two high quality wieners, if there is such a thing as high quality wiener, with 10 minute boil in bag brown rice and steamed veggies. The wieners were a canadian brand called Ehmer and they are a heck of a lot better than the Oscar Mayer type that has probably never seen real meat. The wieners weren’t actually much worse than a turkey patty, only 3 grams more fat, all 3 grams saturated fat unfortunately, and 7 grams less protein. Had I not eaten peanut butter and crackers for lunch instead of my usual power bar, I think my macros would have been OK. This way I had a bit more fat than I wanted and a bit less protein but it’s still well within the range of acceptable distribution, at least in my opinion.
I’m pretty proud for not eating anything sweet at the company lunch. I think the weekend should be pretty good, I’m sensing sirloin steak is in my future along with some burger patties. I’m sure my wife will want to go out tomorrow night so I’ll have to be careful as what to eat wherever we end up at.
On a side note my kids just had their 5th annual and 18 month well child check-ups at the doctor today. My son was told that he needs to eat five spoonfuls of everything we put in front of him not just one bite and that includes broccoli and beans. I’ll be real eager giving him all the green stuff and force feeding it to him while claiming it was the doctor’s orders. I really hope he catches onto liking some vegetables soon.
