Sean,

If you can't keep a conversation while running you're running too fast and you need to slow down! Here is a link to an article that writes about the speak test.

The trail that is mentioned in this article is very nicely graded packed gravel which is easier on the joints than concrete or asphalt. The other trail I run on is concrete only at some parts, then a bit of asphalt on the side of the road and eventually it's both packed gravel and concrete side by side for walkers/runners/cyclists.

I also can't imagine talking while running yet, let along carrying on a conversation. At the gym I'm solo but I bet when those longer runs come in reach I'll enjoy the company and the conversation during run.

Random question, is the trail paved or gravel? I think I'd run better on gravel / hard pack instead of cement. I'm hoping on running in some limestone on a nice long trail near my house soon to test my theory.

I can't imagine being able to talk while running that long! When I'm out running with the kids on their bikes, I always tell them not to talk to me because it's just too hard to run and talk at the same time. Of course they talk the whole time anyway, and I just listen.

One of the things I've always loved about running is that you get to discover new places in your local area.

Hehe. I should have mentioned that the photo is illustration only. The actual trail is completely graveled and has nice decking on the bridges, the rails and the railroad ties are long gone. But the actual trail is indeed scenic with nicely wooded areas and pastures.

Exciting stuff! My bike ride to work is 10 miles, that would make for a very long run! Good job, man. Cool picture. Always nice when the journeys are scenic.
