Weekly Status, Week 20
Wow! 20 weeks! I find it hard to believe that I’ve been living this new life for this long. It seems like such a short period of time, it certainly has passed by quick. This week zipped by as well. My eating has been spot on, running has been solid and I did do my two scheduled strength training days.
My average calorie intake for the week clocks in at 1,772 calories. I have averaged 162.1 grams of daily protein which is more than I had in a while. Clearly the week was spot on in terms of calories and macronutrients. It takes very little effort now to stay within the self imposed calorie limit.
I did my two strength training exercise days at the gym at work, one on Monday and one on Friday. I did 4 exercises both days, two chest/triceps and two back/bicep compound exercises. It only takes about 20 minutes, I don’t know why I hadn’t done it for years before. I will probably have to start concentrating on my core a good bit too as well as some on my legs; running can do only so much. But the schedule is tight and I’m more dedicated to running than strength building.
Speaking of running, this week I ran a total of 31.2 miles which is 50km for the metric folks. This is the most I had run in a single week so far. I’m still building up mileage so you will read this same sentence over and over in the coming weeks about me having ran further than the week before. The runs are getting harder and harder but I think I’m handling them well and staying injury free. I’ll have a couple of races coming up in the next months so I’m concentrating on getting in top shape for those. As for calories, I had burned 3,936 calories running this week, that’s 562.3 calories a day on average. Combine that with my daily intake of 1,772 calories and you get to a daily net calories of 1,210 calories. With that I had lost 1.9 lbs (0.8 kg) this week which means my adjusted BMR for the week is 2,160 calories. This number is dropping every week. I’m lighter, more efficient and while I’m running more I’m carrying less weight and burning less calories.
I’m still very happy with the week and based on my target goal of 155 lbs, I should be reaching it right around mid June just in time for summer! 20 weeks down, 14 more to go.

Great job this week, Greg!

Thanks Chad!
You’ve done really well to have such consistent progress over your 20 weeks. That smacks of hard work and dedication!

Yeah, I’m kind of impressed with the trend line myself. You’re doing just as well, mind you!
You’re a weight loss machine! Good job keeping track of it as always. I am curious about how to calculate that BMR number. I’ll have to look that up. It’s an important one for calorie counters like ourselves. Best

David, I’ll write a longer article about BMR in a little bit, until then you can certainly head over to http://www.caloriesperhour.com and get a head start. I strongly suggest using the sedentary model and count actual calories burned during exercises separate.
These are some pretty tight metrics on your progress. I have kept a pretty strict strength program for many years now. WHen I wanted to lose weight starting in December 2009, it was my knee-jerk reaction to turning up the strength program. Well…..it makes weight loss a little slower, but also has increased my ability to bur calories. So now I am in a great position to notch down the food program and uncover great strength.

Yes, strength training and exercise must be an integral part of fat loss. I hope I’m showcasing that on my blog.
Hi Greg! What a great week you had! I love how precise you are. Your numbers are very motivating!
